Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of JoinMyBoat ("Platform"), operated by JoinMyBoat ("we", "us"). By creating an account you agree to these Terms in full. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.

1. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 18 years old to use the Platform.
  • You must provide accurate information during registration and identity verification.
  • One account per person. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent verification or bans is prohibited.

2. Account and verification

  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
  • Identity verification is required to access the full Platform. You must submit genuine, unaltered government-issued ID.
  • Submitting fraudulent, altered, or another person's documents is a material breach and grounds for immediate termination and reporting to relevant authorities.
  • We reserve the right to re-verify your identity at any time.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Platform to:

  • Impersonate any person or misrepresent your identity, qualifications, or experience.
  • Harass, threaten, abuse, or discriminate against any other user.
  • Post or share illegal content, including content that violates copyright, privacy, or hate speech laws.
  • Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from the Platform.
  • Introduce malware, viruses, or any code designed to disrupt the Platform.
  • Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose or to facilitate unlawful activity.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other users' accounts or the Platform's systems.
  • Advertise unrelated services or send unsolicited commercial messages.

4. Maritime safety

  • JoinMyBoat connects sailors, employers, and explorers — activities that carry inherent risks at sea.
  • We do not verify professional qualifications, seamanship competency, vessel seaworthiness, or the accuracy of any listings.
  • All safety decisions — including crew vetting, vessel inspections, passage planning, and emergency preparedness — remain the sole responsibility of the parties involved.
  • We strongly recommend checking all certifications and conducting due diligence before any offshore passage or crewing arrangement.

5. Content

  • You retain ownership of content you post (profile information, photos, listings).
  • By posting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display it on the Platform for the purpose of operating the service.
  • We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these Terms or applicable law without notice.
  • Do not post others' personal information, private communications, or photos without their explicit consent.

6. Payments and fees

The Platform is currently free to use. If we introduce paid features in the future, we will notify you at least 30 days in advance and update these Terms accordingly.

7. Account termination

  • By you: You may delete your account at any time from your dashboard. All personal data is erased within 30 days (see Privacy Policy).
  • By us: We may suspend or terminate your account immediately if you breach these Terms, submit fraudulent documents, or engage in behaviour that endangers other users or the Platform.
  • Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ceases immediately. Content you created may be retained in anonymised form for legal and safety records.

8. Limitation of liability

  • The Platform is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
  • We are not liable for interactions, arrangements, accidents, injuries, losses, or disputes arising between users.
  • Our total liability to you for any claim arising from use of the Platform shall not exceed €100 or the amount you paid to us in the preceding 12 months, whichever is greater.
  • We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages.

9. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the European Union and the jurisdiction where JoinMyBoat is registered. Disputes shall first be attempted to be resolved through direct negotiation. If unresolved, they are subject to the courts of that jurisdiction. EU consumers retain the right to use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

10. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be communicated by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use of the Platform after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
